In my normal life, I'm a teacher at an international school in south Asia. Whenever I'm near a coast, I love to wander the tidepools with a camera in hand, peering into the intricate mini-landscapes and hunting for hidden creatures. With COVID-19 landing me and my family in the Pacific Northwest for the time being, I started working with oyster shells as a creative outlet from my semi-nocturnal life teaching virtually on an Asian timetable.
I'm particularly drawn to the idea of taking something that is normally cast off and giving it purpose, and the oyster shell, with its undulating waves and curves, is a thing of beauty. Meticulously cleaned and decorated, they make lovely and useful home decor and I hope you enjoy them.
